About Hard Wired drum sheet music

Hard-Wired was Dave Weckl’s third solo album, released on GRP Records in 1994. The title track is a showcase for his clean, technical and musical fusion drumming.

Weckl’s solo is precise, technical and musical at the same time. Fast linear patterns, clear phrasing and perfect time are all on display. Learning it note-for-note helps you build technique, but also shows how Weckl shapes a solo so it always sounds like music.

A drum transcription taken from the original recording

This Hard Wired drum transcription was written bar by bar from Dave Weckl's studio recording and checked against the track. It is not a live take and nothing is simplified – these are the Hard Wired drum notes exactly as they were played on the record.

The notation is clean and professionally engraved, with clearly marked sections and repeats, so it is quick to find your place when you jump to a fill or a chorus. Print it for your music stand or keep it on a tablet – both work well.

Why note-for-note sheet music?

Most free Hard Wired drum tabs are rough sketches – the main groove, maybe a fill or two, and rhythms that are hard to read. Note-for-note sheet music shows exactly what was played and when, so you learn the real part instead of an approximation, and you learn it faster.

Who is this sheet music for?

This transcription is for advanced drummers, fusion and jazz students, and anyone who wants to study one of the most technically admired drummers in the world.
