About Queen

Queen formed in London in 1970 with Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and, from 1971, John Deacon. Mixing hard rock, opera, music hall and pop, they became one of the biggest bands in history, with albums such as A Night at the Opera, News of the World and The Game and songs that are still sung in stadiums every week.

Their legendary set at Live Aid in 1985 is often called the greatest live performance of all time, and the 2018 film Bohemian Rhapsody introduced the band to a new generation. For drummers, Queen songs are a masterclass in playing for the song – every part has a clear job, and every fill has a reason.

Drumming on Queen songs

Roger Taylor’s drumming is all about serving the song. He moves easily from delicate ballad playing to hard rock, and his parts are full of tasteful details – cymbal swells, well-placed fills and big, dramatic builds. Queen songs often change feel several times, so they are great for learning dynamics, band hits and how to follow an arrangement.

Frequently asked questions about Queen drum sheet music

Which Queen song should I learn first on drums?

“We Are The Champions” or “The Show Must Go On” – both are slow and clear, so you can focus on feel and dynamics. Then try “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” for swing, and save “Bohemian Rhapsody” for when you are comfortable reading a song with many sections.

Is this Queen drum sheet music or drum tabs?

It is full drum sheet music – standard drum notation on a five-line staff, transcribed note-for-note from the original recordings. Unlike drum tabs, notation shows the exact rhythm of every note, so you can play the parts exactly as they sound on the record.

Is there a Queen drum sheet music collection?

Yes – Queen Ultimate Drum Collection includes the songs at 30% off. You can also buy any 3 songs and get a 4th free.

Can I get a Queen song that is not listed here?
