About Animals As Leaders
Animals As Leaders began as a project of guitarist Tosin Abasi and grew into an instrumental trio with guitarist Javier Reyes and drummer Matt Garstka. Albums such as Weightless, The Joy of Motion, The Madness of Many and Parrhesia combine progressive metal, jazz and electronic influences.
Their music is full of odd groupings and complex grooves – a serious challenge for drummers into modern prog and djent.
Drumming on Animals As Leaders songs
Matt Garstka’s drumming mixes metal, jazz and funk, with ghost notes, odd groupings and big unisons with the guitars. The debut album’s drums were programmed, and those parts are written out here for a real kit.
