About Main Girl drum sheet music

“Main Girl” is one of the songs that introduced Montreal singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin to a wider audience. Her music blends pop, soul, R&B and jazz influences, with a smooth, modern production style.

The drums on the record are programmed, and this transcription turns that part into sheet music you can play on a real kit. It is a smooth, modern pop/R&B groove – ideal for drummers who want to recreate electronic-style grooves with the precision and consistency of a drum machine, while keeping a human feel.

A drum transcription taken from the original recording

This Main Girl drum transcription was written bar by bar from Charlotte Cardin's studio recording and checked against the track. It is not a live take and nothing is simplified – these are the Main Girl drum notes exactly as they were played on the record.

The notation is clean and professionally engraved, with clearly marked sections and repeats, so it is quick to find your place when you jump to a fill or a chorus. Print it for your music stand or keep it on a tablet – both work well.

How to practise Main Girl on drums

A step-by-step way to learn Main Girl on drums with the sheet music:

1. Listen with the sheet music. Notice how precise and consistent the programmed groove is.
2. Practise with a metronome. Electronic-style grooves need very steady time.
3. Keep dynamics even. Aim for consistent volume, like a drum machine.
4. Watch the details. Small hi-hat and kick variations matter – play them exactly.
5. Play with the record. Lock in with the track and listen for flams between you and it.
6. Record yourself. Compare your timing with the original.

Why note-for-note sheet music?

Most free Main Girl drum tabs are rough sketches – the main groove, maybe a fill or two, and rhythms that are hard to read. Note-for-note sheet music shows exactly what was played and when, so you learn the real part instead of an approximation, and you learn it faster.

Who is this sheet music for?

This sheet music suits beginner-to-intermediate drummers who play pop and R&B, session and function drummers, and anyone who wants to practise playing programmed grooves on an acoustic kit.
