About Born To Be My Baby drum sheet music

“Born To Be My Baby” was the second single from New Jersey, Bon Jovi’s fourth album, and reached the top 3 in the US. It followed the huge success of Slippery When Wet and kept the band at the top of the rock world.

Tico Torres plays an upbeat, anthemic ’80s rock groove with a big backbeat and energetic fills. It is the sound of a stadium rock band at its peak – simple, confident and powerful. A guaranteed crowd-pleaser for cover bands, and a fun song for learning to play big rock grooves.

A drum transcription taken from the original recording

This Born To Be My Baby drum transcription was written bar by bar from Bon Jovi's studio recording and checked against the track. It is not a live take and nothing is simplified – these are the Born To Be My Baby drum notes exactly as they were played on the record.

The notation is clean and professionally engraved, with clearly marked sections and repeats, so it is quick to find your place when you jump to a fill or a chorus. Print it for your music stand or keep it on a tablet – both work well.

3. Make the backbeat big. ’80s rock needs a confident, full snare.
4. Practise the fills. Play them slowly first, then in context.
5. Play with the record. Feel the energy of the band.
6. Record yourself. Check that energy doesn’t make you rush.

Why note-for-note sheet music?

Most free Born To Be My Baby drum tabs are rough sketches – the main groove, maybe a fill or two, and rhythms that are hard to read. Note-for-note sheet music shows exactly what was played and when, so you learn the real part instead of an approximation, and you learn it faster.
